That is it. On this monday 8th of April, we cross (walking) the border between Argentina and Bolivia. We mark the occasion with this second step of our travel in South America.
We took a night bus from Salta and arrived at la Quiaca (Argentinian side) around 5am of the morning. The wake up was tough and at 3,500m, it is pretty cold and not one shop was open. Not even the border which doesn’t open before 7am… So we had to wait inside the bus terminal although you could feel the cold draught.
SO, around 7am of the morning, as the sun rises, we cross the border and arrive to a new world.
It is Monday morning in Bolivia, and as every monday morning, the police fanfare plays on the main square (La Plaza de las Armas) and setup the flag…
Here a very short video..
From there, we left straight to Tupiza, main city of the border of Bolivia (one hour away from the border), where we hope to book for the next day our four wheel drive tour to the Uyuni Salar. (We don’t waste time)
Once arrived, we find a very cute and nice village where we would have stayed a few more days. Caro takes even the opportunity to go horse ridding with a group of friend (two germans girls we meet at the bus terminal on the morning, and Naoimh, we met at Salta) for 5 hours.
The next morning, we have booked for the five of us a four wheel drive plus driver and cooker for a 4 days/3 nights tour including the south part of Lipez desert, and the Salar d’Uyuni.
This is so the program for the next 4 days that you will discovered little by little in the blog.
Blog you soon from the salar,
Jacques and Caro
