Here we go…
We are on the last days of our trip in South America and therefore ready to start what we kept for the 2/3 of our world trip : A 9 days trek in the Huayhuash cordillera in north of Peru, just a few hours away from Huaraz, the trekking capital of Peru.
The Huayhuash cordillera is considered as the most spectacular compact mountain range in the world. Indeed, it spreads accross 30km with peaks up to 6,617m. We can count up to 20 summits with 6 of them above 6,000m. (The highest being Yerupaja at 6,617m).
Not many people live there.
Trekking wise, it is either a 8 days or 9 days journey which is considered as a difficult one and challenging…
Indeed most of the camps are at around 4,300m and you need to go through one or two passes a day at 5,000m. In total this is 180km to walk…
We went there at the end of May which is “normally” the start of the dry season… (I write “normally”)
Instead of writting a post of 15 pages along with 150,000 pictures, I wanted to do something different. Therefore, we have decided to go day by day (so 9 posts in total) of our adventure in Huayhuash…
So don’t go to far from jacquesandcaro.me in order to live what we lived during these amazing 9 days in Peru.
We started our first day quite easily.
Picked up by the travel tour at 9am of the morning and we got driven until our first camp which we reach by 2pm.. So a long drive.
On the road, the weather is quite nice, but it starts to change little by little as we approached the base of the cordillera. The sky is now cloudy but it doesn’t rain… We setup our tent at the Matacancha camp site located at 4,180m where we will spend our first night…
A few pictures of the camp.
In summary, a quite easy day..
Blog you soon,
Jacques&Caro
